What is WiFi?
WiFi stands for Wireless Fidelity. It’s a technology that lets devices connect to the internet without cables, using radio waves instead.
How Devices Connect
Your device has a wireless adapter that converts data into radio signals. These are transmitted via antenna to a wireless router.
The Router’s Job
The router receives signals from your devices, decodes them, and sends the information to the internet through a wired connection.
WiFi Frequency Bands
WiFi uses two main radio frequency bands to transmit data:
2.4 GHz Band
โข Longer range but slower speeds
โข More crowded (used by many devices)
โข Better at going through walls
5 GHz Band
โข Shorter range but faster speeds
โข Less crowded (more available channels)
โข Not as good through walls
WiFi Security Types
Different methods to protect your wireless network:
WEP (Old and Unsafe)
Easily cracked. Never use this!
WPA (Better but Weak)
Improved security but still vulnerable
WPA2 (Current Standard)
Strong security used by most networks today
WPA3 (Newest & Safest)
Latest standard with even better protection
